Rec Coaching Information

The North Star FC Recreational Program is coached by volunteer coaches looking to positively impact a child’s life.

The rec program will have roughly 1500 players per season, and we are only able to service these players with volunteer coaches.

The club will provide age-appropriate manuals and lesson plans; in addition, there is ongoing support for all grades from the North Star FC Directors of Coaching. No formal education is required, but it is recommended.

We encourage current North Star FC players, non-parents and parents of players to become involved in this program. This is a volunteer position. Total time commitment varies based on the grade you are coaching.

2026 Fall Rec Season

  • Practices Begin: Week of September 7
  • First Games: Saturday, September 12
  • No Games: Saturday, October 17 — MEA Weekend
  • Final Games: Saturday, October 24

Practice Locations

North Star FC will make every effort to place players in the Rochester quadrant (NW, NE, SW or SE) where they live. Placement is based on player numbers and available volunteer coaches, so practice in your preferred quadrant is not guaranteed.

By registering for the Recreational program, families agree that their player may practice at any location within Rochester city limits.

  • 1st–2nd Grade: Monday & Wednesday
  • 3rd–4th Grade: Tuesday & Thursday
  • 5th–6th Grade Girls: Tuesday & Thursday
  • 5th–6th Grade Boys: Monday & Wednesday
  • 7th–9th Grade: Coach's choice

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available for families who need assistance with registration fees. To apply, begin the registration process and select Financial Aid from the Club Programs area. Complete and submit the application for review.

Volunteer Coaching Requirements

Thank you for volunteering to coach with North Star FC. All recreational coaches must complete the required safety training before working with players.

Background checks are required annually and are valid for the calendar year (January 1–December 31).

2 - Complete SafeSport Training

SafeSport training must be completed annually. New coaches complete the full SafeSport course; returning coaches complete the appropriate refresher course.

3 - Complete Concussion Training

Concussion training is required for recreational coaches. Certificates are valid for three years.
